Strange Thing Mystifying

Check out
this story about a 9-year old girl who have the mind of a 3-month old and will now be a child for the rest of her life. By the way, she's expected to live a normal lifespan, which is around 72, right?

Her parents had her uterus and breast buds removed and put her on a very large dose of hormones to keep her from growing. The reasons: keep her small so she's easier to move around and can be taken places rather than staying in a bed the rest of her life (by the way, she would probably have only grown to be as big as me); eliminate discomfort she would have from menstruation since she won't be bearing children (no one mentioned that hysterectomies are dangerous and put women at high risk for cancer!); and eliminate discomfort from large breasts (again, if she was supposed to be my size... sounds like wishful thinking) as well as keep her from being sexualized in the eyes of a future caregiver.

This sounds very creepy. What happens when the parents die? Is she going to be this totally addle-brained middle-aged "pillow angel" (you have to read the article) for someone else? My favorite quote:

"If the concern has something to do with the girl's dignity being violated, then I have to protest by arguing that the girl lacks the cognitive capacity to experience any sense of indignity," [the parents] said.

Wow. Not being able to experience indignity. It's so dehumanizing. No wonder she seems like some strange pet.

This is a weird issue. Any thoughts?
